That new CD smell

Nick and I are planning to celebrate the end of a hard week — and a hard quarter — by purchasing new CDs this evening.
It's our treat to ourselves for working hard to the bitter end. But, it's not quite fair that he gets a week and a half break and I have to start all over again on Monday ...
What is it about buying a new CD? I know, nobody buys CDs anymore, but why not? Once you spend the 15 minutes it takes to get the darn thing unwrapped, it's so much fun to crack open the case, pull out the liner notes and pop in the CD. I always have a sense of anticipation and hope when I buy a new CD. Hope that there will be songs on there even better than the ones I've already heard that made me want to buy it in the first place.
Then again, when you get a dud, it's a real bummer. Don't you hate it when there's only one or two good songs on a CD?
I guess that's why people use iTunes these days. I've downloaded songs from iTunes (I'm not completely un-hip), but I'm not giving up on CDs just yet.
So now comes the hard part: What to buy?
There's always the new Death Cab for Cutie CD. I'm also interested in checking out M. Ward, Radiohead In Rainbows or maybe The Broken West. Then again, I've been meaning to buy a Neil Young CD for ages now. Oh wait! What about The Weakerthans?
Decisions, decisions.
