Man's Best Friend

Next to my wife, who is my best friend for life, comes my dog. The title of Man's Best Friend hold very true when it comes to my dog, casey, who is a border collie mix. Casey, although smart for a dog, is not the brightest. She doesn't really need to be all that smart though. Except when it comes to her destroying the house, furniture, and running away countless times from me into the neighborhood, where I have to chase her from neighbors' backyards. But with all that I love her very much, I have always loved dogs and think this one will live longer than the ones I had when I was young. I love my dog now mostly because I can appreciate her for just being her, a dog. I love to watch her play with her toys, cross her paws when she lays down, and when she sits for things as small as a piece of ice. I have the simple things in life and sometimes forget how really BIG they are. I am in school for something I really believe in, I have a wife who I would never be without, pets, and a house in a small town. That's the signs of getting older..... but you know.... I love it.

What city am I in?

At Super 1 today, I had a Lafayette moment right in the middle of Ruston.
I was minding my own business, bagging my groceries in my nifty reusable Super 1 bags, when the lady bagging in the lane next to me asked me where I got them. I explained that I used to live in Lafayette, and I'd found them at a store there.
"You're from Lafayette? So am I!" she exclaimed.
Then came the moment:
"Who's your mama?" she asked me.
That phrase, spoken with that lyrical South Louisiana accent, almost — for just a second — made me miss living there.
People in Lafayette ask that question all the time. It's even the title of a book.
I had to explain to her that my mama lives in Monroe, and I could tell she was a little disappointed. I guess the moment couldn't last forever.
